Siegfried Linkwitz, sadly no longer with us, did listening tests where either a first-order all-pass flter, a second-order all-pass flter (both at 100 Hz), or a direct connection that could be switched into the audio path [29]. These flters have similar phase characteristics to all-pass crossovers and cause gross visible distortions of a square waveform but are in practice inaudible. He reported, “I have not found a signal for which I can hear a difference. This seems to conf rm Ohm’s Acoustic Law that we do not hear waveform distortion.”
