The shown Garrard 401 has a special homebrewed plinth.
The motor plate has several cavities, filled with lead and silica, sothat the motorplate including motor unit and tonearm on all four sides has become the same weight. This applies to the base too; these also has several cavities and is filled with lead an silica. Between top plate and the base there are eight squashballs, simulating a subchassis and the plinth is standing on three RDC feet, witch are positioned around the focus of the overall mass. The arm used is an Ultra-Craft AC-400 MKII, pickup Fidelity Research FR-1 MK3F.
