Hi all, just before the pandemic, I had done an Altec tour of some of the members of this forum such as Stephane, Raoul, Dominique, Dominique Tanguy, Stephane's friends, etc.
I have been quite enamored by dual FLH (dual front loaded horns), and found the best ones to be Altec 817 and another based by TAD 4003/JBL 220a made in Norway.
Apart from visiting systems physically, and sharing experiences with words, I also like to share experiences with videos.
I plan to share quite a few different horn videos playing classical, jazz, and rock, if fine with this forum, and would encourage members to do the same. Recording is on smartphone. All my videos, unless otherwise mentioned, are recorded with iphone 11 from Aug 2022, and iphone 7 before that. If you stream them to a small speaker, your system, or a good headphone, and compare across systems, it helps understand some of the system sonics.
I will start with Altec 817 videos, with Misho, Yanislav at Audio antiquary in Bulgaria in December 2022.
We tried original 802g with 4 cell metal horn and 288k with paper diaphraghm and 1505 wooden horns, I preferred the former. Not sure what combination of Alnico, metal, or aluminum diaphragm was the reason for the preference.
