Hi, does anyone know if this is a original cone for a 515B? It does not say 21184, for example.

Hi,
In my opinion, it's not a genuin cone : as you said, it should be 21184 with suffix -2, -3 or -4.(depending of the version)
It could be a cone from another Altec, I don't know which one?
For example a 515-G has a cone numbers : 1803035662

Hi, the 1803035-400 cone was the last repair reference from ALTEC LANSING for 515-B and 416.
If the recone change as been done as it has to be, no problem, it will sound good.

Hi the person I am interested in buying from does not know if it is reconed or not, as as owned it for 15 years, and bought it from someone who owned it 15 years before that, and he does not know if that person had reconed it.
So when you say it was the last repair reference, it means it was repaired by Altec the company itself years ago?

Not necessarily, it was possible to buy the recone kit, and repair your loudspeakers yourself...But 1803035-400 is the good reference.
Ask for more pics to see if the paint is damaged, the dust cap glue is well put...
There's no doubt, this 515-B has been reconed but if the repair was well done, no problem.
For your information, last year, I've repaired my 515 (first serie) and my 416-8B with GPA recone kits (035400) and they works and sound good!

Je pense que Bonzo ne parle pas français, sinon il se serait exprimé dans notre langue.
On a déjà eu le débat par le passé et on avait acté de ne pas interdire d'écrire en anglais.
En cela, on a choisi de ne pas singer les forums anglophones.
